Start up your own online farmer's market

After asuccessful launch in Somerset, The Food Assembly is looking to grow its networkof organisers in Wiltshire and Swindon.

The Food Assembly is a network of onlinefarmers' markets, set up by people in their local communities, directlyconnecting local food producers to customers. Organisers can be eitherindividuals or organisations and come from all walks of life.

The thrivingFrome Food Assembly has over 2,000 members buying directly from 26 local foodproducers each week. Customers order their food online and then pick it up at alocal friendly venue. Online ordering means producers know exactly what tobring so there is no waste. The average distance of food travelled is 28 milesand the producers get over 80% for their work, compared to 20-40% viasupermarkets.

Food Assemblies support local farmers and foodmakers, strengthen community networks and offer organisers a supplementary incomestream. The model complements traditional farmer's markets where many FoodAssembly producers already sell.
